Mark and Denise Finnegan bought the Walker Sale Barn from Coy and Bonnie Walton in the fall of 2002. The Finnegans' have since then re-established scheduled Saturday cattle sales. The business has been selling all classes of livestock (hogs, sheep, goats, and cattle) for many years. The Waltons ran the business for about 30 years and there was a partnership that ran it prior to them. The Walker Sale Barn has been a long standing tradition in northern Linn County Iowa.
The Finnegan's have been working at the barn for the past twelve years, and have started their family in the business as well. Fallon and Sam Finnegan are the two children in the ring, the office, the lunchroom, or out back, barking orders or just getting into trouble. The Finnegans are so committed to the Sale Barn that they live on the premises to enable them to offer the best service possible to the public.
Mark Finnegan is also the barn manager. He has had a lifetime of experience working on his family's farm in Parnell, Iowa. Mark has worked in several sale barns and worked for the Amana Farms (ten years for Amana) to give him the experience to know about livestock. The Finnegans work hard to make sure the livestock sold in their barn reflects the worth of the animal in the marketplace.
